Parole officer's case files for women prisoners at Waupun, 1926-1932.

Incomplete parole files on women incarcerated at Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun and at several county jails prior to the construction of the Wisconsin Prison for Women at Taycheedah in 1933. This series is thought to have been part of the files of State Parole Officer Muriel McGinley whose office was located at the Wisconsin Industrial Home for Women at Taycheedah.

The Wisconsin State Prison at Waupun was opened in July 1851. It was under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Supervisors (WIHV87-A1267) in 1881, then the State Board of Control (WIHV85-A2106) in 1891. Until the opening of the Women's Prison at Taycheedah (see WIHV88-A50) in 1933, it served as a maximum security facility for both men and women and since then for men only. In 1939, the prison became part of the newly created Department of Public Welfare's (WIHV85-A488) Division of Corrections...
